Anne Arundel Jail Mugshots
The Anne Arundel County public inmate locator does not show booking photos in the reviewed template. The official county-hosted result view displays Name, JID, Sex, DOB, Current Location, Current Housing, Bail Amount, Court Date(s), Circuit Court Case(s), and District Court Case(s). No image, mugshot, booking-photo field, or photo URL appears in that result template. That means the public roster should not be treated as a mugshot database or recent-bookings gallery.
The county channel that does name booking photos is the Anne Arundel County Public Information Act request portal. Its Detention Facilities topic covers Booking Photos, Inmate Records, and Visitation records. The Anne Arundel County Department of Detention Facilities also links the county locator, visitation, public-information request, and facility pages from one official hub. A booking photo can therefore be requested as a detention record, but Maryland PIA rules and law-enforcement or correctional exemptions still apply. For a custody search first, use Anne Arundel County jail inmate records; for the court case and charge outcome tied to an arrest, use Anne Arundel County court records after arrest.
What is and isn't public: Anne Arundel County's reviewed locator shows custody, housing, bail, court-date, and case-number fields. It does not show a public mugshot field, and booking photos may require a PIA request.
Anne Arundel Photo Field Inventory
The field inventory is important because it prevents a false expectation. The county locator is useful, but it is built as a custody and court-pointer tool. It can help identify the right person and facility before a booking-photo request. It does not provide the full booking sheet fields that many commercial sites imply are public in every county.
| Public Locator Field | What the Reviewed Template Shows |
|---|---|
| Name | Booked name returned by the county service. |
| JID | Jail Identification Number, also used as the clickable result key. |
| Sex and DOB | Identity fields used to distinguish people with similar names. |
| Current Location and Current Housing | The facility and housing area, useful for Jennifer Road Detention Center or Ordnance Road Correctional Center. |
| Bail Amount and Court Date(s) | Release and hearing pointers, not a final court disposition. |
| Circuit Court Case(s) and District Court Case(s) | Case numbers that can be searched in Maryland Judiciary Case Search. |
| Booking Photo | Not shown in the reviewed public locator template. |
The official Anne Arundel County Inmate Locator is still the best first stop because it can provide a JID and case numbers for a later records request.
Use the locator result to capture identifiers, then ask the county for the photo record through the PIA channel if a booking photo is needed.
Request Anne Arundel Booking Photos
A booking-photo request should give the county enough detail to locate the right detention record without guessing. The county PIA portal asks requesters to choose the topic that best matches the request and to describe the records by document type, timeframe, search terms, and names. For booking photos, select Detention Facilities and identify the person by full booked name, JID if known, date of birth when appropriate, facility, booking or custody date range, and related court case number.
- Search the Anne Arundel County Inmate Locator by exact first and last name or JID.
- Save the JID, DOB, Current Location, Current Housing, and any District or Circuit Court case number.
- Search Maryland Judiciary Case Search by case number to confirm the charge record and status.
- Open the Anne Arundel County PIA request portal and choose the Detention Facilities topic.
- Ask for the booking photo or booking record for the named person, with date range, facility, JID, and case numbers.
- Watch for the county's fee, redaction, release, or denial response under Maryland PIA timing rules.
The county PIA portal is the official county route for Detention Facilities booking-photo requests: Anne Arundel County PIA portal.
The PIA form matters because the county may need to review privacy, security, investigatory, and pending-case issues before releasing a booking photo.
Maryland Mugshot Public Record Law
Maryland does not treat every booking photo as an always-online jail mugshot. The better legal frame is public-information law plus law-enforcement, correctional, and investigatory exemptions. Maryland General Provisions §4-201 provides the baseline public-record inspection right. §4-203 requires prompt action on a PIA request and generally no later than 30 days. §4-206 allows reasonable fees, with the first two hours of search and preparation generally free.
The key limit is General Provisions §4-351. It allows denial of law-enforcement, correctional, prosecution, investigatory, security, and certain police-misconduct records when release would interfere with proceedings, deny fair-trial rights, invade privacy, disclose confidential sources or techniques, prejudice an investigation, or endanger safety. Maryland General Provisions §4-301 also requires denial when inspection would be contrary to law, rule, or court order.
Key authorities:
Maryland Attorney General Opinion 92 Op. Att'y Gen. 26 says adult mug shots held by police are not restricted criminal-history record information, but are investigatory records reviewed under the PIA.
Maryland Commercial Law §14-1324 requires qualifying fee-charging mugshot websites to remove covered arrest or detention photos after expungement, shielding, removal from public inspection, or vacated judgment.
Anne Arundel Photo Exemptions
The Maryland Attorney General opinion is useful because it explains the middle ground. Adult mug shots are not automatically blocked as restricted criminal-history record information, but they are still investigatory records. The custodian must assess whether a PIA exemption applies. Juvenile mug shots are ordinarily confidential under juvenile-record law, so a request involving a juvenile should not be treated like an adult detention request.
Anne Arundel County may also redact or deny records when a booking photo is tied to a pending prosecution, safety concern, privacy concern, medical issue, security procedure, or active investigation. The county's PIA page states that requesters will be notified of the result, any fees, and how records may be viewed. It also states that fees must be paid before release. A denial or redaction should point to the legal reason rather than just saying a photo is unavailable.
Remove Anne Arundel Mugshots
No county-specific online mugshot-removal policy was located in the official sources reviewed. For county and court records, removal starts with Maryland expungement or another court process when the case qualifies. Maryland Criminal Procedure §10-105 governs expungement for qualifying police and court records after certain dispositions, and §10-110 covers some conviction paths. A dismissal, acquittal, nolle prosequi, stet, or eligible conviction does not erase every public copy by itself. The court process controls the official record.
Commercial Law §14-1324 is aimed at fee-charging mugshot websites, not at the county detention locator. When an arrest or detention photo record has been expunged, shielded, removed from public inspection, or the judgment was vacated, a covered operator must remove the photo within 30 days after request and may not charge a removal fee. Avoid commercial mugshot sites, especially those that demand payment for removal. Use court expungement, the official record custodian, and the statutory removal rule instead.
| Situation | Official Route | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Photo not online but needed for a record purpose | County PIA request to Detention Facilities | May be released, redacted, or denied under PIA exemptions. |
| Case dismissed or nolle prossed | Maryland expungement review under court rules and statutes | Eligibility can depend on all charges in the case. |
| Third-party fee site keeps a photo | Commercial Law §14-1324 removal request after qualifying record action | The law targets covered fee-charging operators, not every search result. |
State Federal and ICE Photos
State, federal, and immigration custody should not be mixed with Anne Arundel County jail mugshots. The Maryland DPSCS incarcerated individual locator covers people committed to the Commissioner of Correction and housed in Division of Correction facilities, Patuxent Institution, and some short-sentenced people in pretrial or detention facilities. DPSCS warns that the locator does not list everyone and does not list people who are no longer in custody. It is not the Anne Arundel County booking-photo source.
The Federal Bureau of Prisons inmate locator covers federal inmates from 1982 to the present, but it returns identity, release, and location fields rather than public mugshot galleries. ICE's Online Detainee Locator System is an immigration custody locator, not a county booking-photo portal. Anne Arundel County has historical 287(g) and ORCC ICE-contract context in county sources, but current active ICE housing at ORCC was not confirmed on the official detention pages reviewed. Treat federal and ICE records as separate custody systems.
Anne Arundel App Searches
The Apple and Google Play listings for the Anne Arundel County Sheriff app advertise reports and tips, most wanted, sex offender search, inmate search or status notifications, and related sheriff information. The app listing is useful as a possible notification channel, but app-only roster status was not fully verified from official county web pages. The county detention locator and county PIA portal remain the documented public sources for custody identifiers and booking-photo requests.
Keep the search factual. Anne Arundel County jail mugshots can be sensitive records tied to an accusation, not a conviction. A booking photo can outlive the case on third-party pages even when the court record later changes. Check Maryland Case Search for the charge outcome, use the county PIA portal for official photo requests, and avoid any commercial mugshot site that encourages payment before the official record status is clear.
